Before Leaving Home

Visa: You must have a current visa to gain entry to India. Contact your local Indian Embassy for details, ideally allowing 4 weeks for processing

We recommend that you have at least six months on your passport before leaving home

A comprehensive Travel Insurance is essential

Ensure that your vaccinations & innoculations are up to date. As some vaccinations require a series of treatments in advance, start the innoculation process 6-8 weeks in advance of departure

Bring necessary medications from home for guarantee of authenticity. Avoid having to re-stock on medications in India where possible

Bring plenty of business/visitor cards!!

Ensure that you have organised initial accommodation and transportation arrangements for your arrival

On Arrival

Drink only bottled water, and keep a bottle with you at all times

Use only legitimate foreign exchange outlets. You cannot purchase rupees outside of India. All international airports have either ATM's and/or money changing booths. Purchasing Rs 5,000 on arrival in mixed denominations is a good minimum cash requirement

ATM's are readily available in all urban areas

Be cautious of street food; meat, fish & salads

If using public transport, learn to read a taxi/rickshaw meter and check that the driver understands where you are going before getting in! Having your destination written on a piece of paper beforehand is useful.

Be cautious of beggars - although they can be persistant, you are under no obligation to encourage begging

Tipping is generally 20%
